We know how frustrating and frightening it can be when your child is a problem feeder. At NPT, we have years of successful experience with feeding therapy. Your child’s goals and treatment protocol will be tailored specifically to promote the most efficient results.
Many children (and adults!) are picky eaters. While this isn’t always the most exciting way of eating, it isn’t necessarily a problem. Most picky eaters grow into typical eaters over time without feeding therapy intervention. However, when your child begins to severely restrict his or her number of tolerated foods, it is time to contact NPT for your free feeding therapy consultation. We implement a variety of methods to make sure that your child is getting the most appropriate therapy. Additionally, we provide specific activities to carryover your child’s feeding goals at home.
there are picky eaters…
- usually has at least 30 foods in his or her repertoire
- tolerates novel food in front of them, but usually refuses to taste it
- eats at least one food from all major food groups
- tolerates a variety of textures
and there are problem feeders…
- severely decreased repertoire of tolerated foods, usually less than 20
- may eliminate foods that he or she previously tolerated
- eats only a specific texture or color of food
- gets very upset when presented with novel food
- always eats different food than the rest of the family

“Colleen is so friendly and upbeat, and our 10 yr old daughter really loved interacting with her. Our daughter’s clinical progress was immediately noticeable, and it rapidly improved with each session. I attribute much of this to Colleen’s therapy style and her ability to identify the best technique for the child.”
“Colleen also worked with us to guide us on how we could reinforce what he was learning with her. She is an exceptional speech therapist.”
“She had such a warm, sincere and fun approach with my daughter and for the first time, my daughter was excited about speech therapy and talked about Colleen all the time – this never happened with her other therapists! Colleen made speech therapy so fun for my daughter and even integrated her older sister into our weekly visits.”
“In short, Colleen was a wonderful partner in helping our son speak well. When our time was finished we were sad to see her go, but are happy to recommend her to anyone else.”
